Spring Break in Philly

Love Park PhillyOver Spring Break we will be serving the city of Philadelphia (the city of brotherly love) by working with CSM.  We will be staying in Philly for the week and working with different ministries and organizations throughout the city.  We’ll learn about the challenges and needs of the people and churches there, while helping with some of those needs.

Most days will start with helping a ministry in the morning before lunch.  This could be anything from preparing meals, working at shelters, helping a church prepare for an upcoming outreach, etc.  Each morning will be a different service opportunity.  After lunch we will work with an afterschool program.  We will work with the same kids all week and have an opportunity to get to know them.

Known as the birthplace of liberty, Philadelphia is a city of contrasts. In the home of the Liberty Bell you find a poverty rate of 26%, a high school drop out rate of 30% with estimates of 40% of the population struggling with addiction issues. Despite these dire statistics, many ministries and churches are working to serve these populations and are making an impact.

This trip will start with us leaving North Carolina Saturday (3/9/17) morning and end with us returning to North Carolina the following Friday (3/15/17) night. The total cost of the trip is $475.00 and this includes everything from dinner on Sunday night (3/12/17) to breakfast on Friday morning (3/17/17).  The price could come down as we get closer.  This price does not include meals on the way to Philly or on the way back to North Carolina.  We will have at least six meals not included in the $475.00.  These meals will be fast food stops..  You might also want to bring a little extra spending money.
